About us

We're here to help you access your voice

At Uplift AT, we believe that communication is a fundamental human right. That means we don’t believe that there is only one way to communicate or that spoken speech is the “right way”. Instead, we focus on making sure each person has access to express their unique voice – through multi-modal communication!

Whether you’ve just hearing about AAC for the first time or already well on your journey with a device, we’re here for you! We work with people of all ages, from infants to adults, in determining their need for alternative communication methods, getting the devices funded through insurance, and supporting their ongoing communication goals!

What is augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)?

AAC is a type of assistive technology that refers to all the ways someone communicates beyond spoken speech. AAC can be someone's only way of communicating or it can be used periodically to supplement spoken speech (like in the case of someone who has inconsistent speech or variable intelligibility).

The above video was not created by Uplift AT and is included as an example of what AAC can be. One of the AAC systems, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), referenced in the video we don’t use at Uplift AT because of it’s focus on compliance over connection.
